The essay must have a discussion of ‘bounded rational’ and an extensive description of decision making elements. Mention Deterrence Theory, Rational Choice Theory and Routine Activities Theory: with each one what has it contributed to our understanding of offending, similarities and differences between the theories- where they converge/dissociate, recognise the limitations of these theories. Mention other theories slightly with more empirical evidence eg. Social Learning Theory. Which theory out of the three comes out on top? Policy implications. Avoid too much focus on criminal justice interventions, although mentioning it is fine. The conclusion should address the overall contribution of rational actor theories of crime to our understanding of offending. More sources cited, the better. A mix of primary and secondary sources. 4000 words at the most for the entire essay.
