  1. This question relates to the following description of a potential research model. The model (see the figure below) proposes that use of information technology in general will increase the use of various (in this case, two) types of information technology (App A and App B) that are related to (in this case, two) specific tasks (Task A and Task B), and that performance on these specific tasks will increase with increased use of the various technologies. The constructs are: Use of IT, Use of an IT App, and Perf(ormance) on a Task. The latter two constructs need to be measured for each of the two types of App and Task.

  1. How would you go about measuring these constructs? [50]
  2. Depending on your answer to part a., how would you go about establishing the validity of these constructs? [40]
  3. What statistical analysis method would you use to test the model? Explain your choice. [10]
  1. Assume you have designed a research study that requires multiple regression analysis.
    1. Describe the steps required to run the analysis. [50]
    2. What measures would you use to determine whether the completed run meets the assumptions of multiple regression analysis? [20]
    3. Explain what you can conclude with respect to the following potential outcomes:
      1. The variance explained for the model is less than 10% and all independent variables are statistically significant (p < .05). [10]
      2. The adjusted variance explained for the model is much smaller than the standard variance explained. [10]
  • The variance explained for the model is higher than 30% but only one independent variable is statistically significant. [10]

  1. Assume you have designed a research study that requires path analysis because there are two competing explanations for how three constructs (A, B and C) affect each other (see the figure below). A is said to influence C directly and also indirectly as mediated by B.
    1. Describe the steps required to run the analysis. [50]
    2. What measures would you use to determine whether the completed run meets the assumptions of path analysis? [20]
    3. Explain the resulting path model with respect to each of the following scenarios:
      1. In the first multiple regression, the p-value of the Beta weight of Construct A is 0.23 and the p-value of the Beta weight of Construct B is 0.03. [10]
      2. In the first multiple regression, the p-value of the Beta weight of Construct A is 0.03 and the p-value of the Beta weight of Construct B is 0.23. [10]
  • In the first multiple regression, the p-value of the Beta weight of Construct A is 0.005 and the p-value of the Beta weight of Construct B is 0.03. [10]
