Router modelling

Router Modelling

A router performs a simple task; it receives data frames, it extracts the destination address and forwards it out of the most appropriate interface.

In this case study you are required to model the basic data and control processes of the router.

Using standard data modelling (DFD) and control modelling (FSM) techniques model a basic router’s functionality. In modelling these processes consider the flow and type of data entering an interface, how it is initially processed, how the router determines the exit interface and how the output data stream is formatted.
